The start of a new year is always exciting for the Red Frog crews around South Africa. School leavers that we met at Matric Rage are off to University and we are able to continue building those friendships made while safeguarding this generation. This year our volunteers will be present at 9 Universities around the country: UCT, Stellenbosch University, TUKS, WITS, Rhodes University, Varsity College Durban North, Varsity College Westville, and at NMMU and UJ throughout the year.
Red Frogs aim to be a positive presence in party environments and during orientation week we provide support to students at university events. It is incredible to see the positive reaction of students who have met our crew at Matric holiday. At Universities we are able to continue connections of trust and support, and hope that in any situation students feel they can call on the Red Frog volunteers for help.
So far this year we have been present at TUKS RAG week where our crew were able to be inside the TUKS Rag Farm and provide support to students in need.
At Stellies our crew were out on the streets making pancakes and ensuring students were safe and getting home after a night out.
Our WITS team have also been busy at weekly parties setting up hydration and chill out stations for students to find solace at.
Our volunteers use the tool of a Red Frog jelly sweet, manufactured by Cartoon Candy, to start conversations and build a positive rapport with students at University events. Along with assisting students our hope is that we have been able to support the RAG/O-Week organisers and student bodies of each of these Universities by being extra eyes and hands to help.
The Red Frogs Cape Town volunteers begin their O-Week support on the 8th February. We are so grateful to everyone who has sponsored/donated to our crew. We have a busy University program planned for 2014, one which continues to safeguard a generation of young South Africans.
